Next Spinoff Film to Feature Boba Fett

TheWrap has reported that the Star Wars franchise’s second anthology film will focus on the fan-favorite bounty hunter.

That rumor has circulated since at least early 2013, when Disney confirmed plans for “standalone films” to be released between installments of the new trilogy.

The first anthology film, director Gareth Edwards’ “Star Wars: Rogue One,” centers on the theft of the Death Star plans just prior to the events of “A New Hope.” Announced for release Dec. 16, 2016, “Rogue One” will be followed in 2018 by this second film, which until recently was to be directed by “Fantastic Four’s” Josh Trank.

TheWrap suggests — and it certainly makes thematic sense — that following the world of Rebel spies in “Rogue One,” the next film would center on bounty hunters, specifically, how Boba Fett became the most notorious one in the galaxy, working for the likes of the Empire and Jabba the Hutt.

Whether this second film is indeed focused on Boba Fett naturally remains to be seen. At various times over the past couple of years there have been rumors of standalone features dedicated to Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi and a young Han Solo, but none has progressed beyond that.
