This afternoon StarWars.Com announced that Disney/Lucasfilm had set a release date for the as of yet untitled Star Wars: Episode VII. The upcoming film will be released on December 18, 2015. This announcement comes just after recent rumors that producer Kathleen Kennedy had requested that the film be pushed back in favor of a 2016 release date.
Chairman of the Walt Disney Studios, Alan Horn said of the announcement, “We’re very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture.”
