Before the Revenge

A long time ago in a galaxy far away…

For three years after the events of Attack of the Clones the Clone Wars rage on. There is an ongoing battle between the Jedi Knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker and the Separatists Count Dooku and General Grievous. The Republic’s troops have won many victories over the Separatists, but the enemy continues to strike back. Meanwhile on Coruscant, Mace Windu and Yoda select an anonymous informant to turn the tide of the war…

“So you used to be a fighter pilot on Naboo after joining the RSF,” Windu stated. “And from there you became a small time freighter and mercenary after the fall of the Trade Federation.”

“That’s correct,” said the man. He stood erect in a casual star pilot’s flight jacket. He had medium-length black hair and a gruff face with a small goatee and sideburns. He carried a utility belt, an assortment of blasters, and a lightsaber. The man’s name was Reveren Jence, and his past was intimately connected to that of Jango Fett, who had murdered his family.

Yoda looked at Jence’s saber and asked, “Who gave you that lightsaber, Master Jence?”

“That would be me.” Ki-Adi-Mundi stood. “When I found him on Nar Shadaa he wasn’t any older than Senator Amidala. I felt his presence in the Force years ago, but didn’t actually find him until the opportune moment.”

Reveren looked about the Council anxiously.

Finally Mace Windu spoke. “All right, Reveren, I assume Master Mundi has taught you the ways in the Force?”

Reveren nodded.

“Well, then, go you will to Dooku’s last known coordinates. Stop his efforts you must,” Yoda explained.

Reveren agreed and left the Council. Before he returned to his ship, the Ravenstar, Ki-Adi approached him. “You have learned well,” he said. “If you require any assistance, I’d be happy to lend it to you, my apprentice.”

Reveren couldn’t believe he had earned that title.

Two days later, Jence received a call from Kenobi and Skywalker. He liked Anakin. They had gotten quite close ten years ago on Naboo. Obi-Wan, however, still hadn’t taken a liking to him. The message said that Grievous’ forces had struck again.

Clone Troopers pulled out and retreated due to heavy losses. Skywalker, who was now quite an outspoken young lad and Jedi Knight, had come to Reveren as a friend, asking for aid.

Dooku had to be down there. Reveren growled to himself, “Grievous is mine.”

After landing, Jence looked around and saw through the planet with the Force. It was a rainforest. It reminded him of Mantooine, his home planet. He walked to the source of the transmission. Skywalker and Kenobi were gone.

“This is weird,” he muttered.
