Farewell to the Lucas Experience

If it wasn’t for Star Wars , I probably wouldn’t have become such an avid reader. Sure, the books weren’t Lucas, but it still came from his creation. Hell I’d even eagerly celebrate Star Wars Day every year and consider it an actual holiday!

Star Wars marathons became a yearly tradition for me, watching again and again as the Skywalker story unfolded, and not once getting bored with it. It was just the 6 films, and they seemed to be enough. I was perfectly fine with there being no more films, it was what it was because of the fact there were only 6 films they told the complete story of one or more beloved characters. Any more would have been overkill; there was no need for it. The audience got what they wanted from the films. The Expanded Universe had built itself up from there, and for awhile that was what the hardcore and loyal could follow.

Then came The Clone Wars television show. The animation was top notch; nothing else on TV could touch it. Lucas had once again gotten the best to make his vision of a galaxy far, far, away become all the more a reality, regardless of how much the continuity slipped up.

Lucas would then make one more film: Red Tails , a story about WWII black pilots that was seen as a cultural piece as well as a historical portrait. Once again, the special effects were top-notch and he still managed to leave his mark on it. I knew it was Lucas.
