Return of Kyle Katarn?

So how does this make me feel at the moment?

Well, Disney do make a lot of games and they do seem to be quite playable, thinking back to the Toy Story games that I played with my daughter when she was younger, Kingdom Hearts,Duck Tales, and the other film franchise-linked games, I think that they do make some very playable games.

Much like LEGO, Disney makes simple, yet playable games.

Now, a lot of you serious gamers may be shaking your head now and thinking “JQG, really mate?”, but let’s just think about this, LucasArts have had 30 years at attempting to make games based on the greatest films of all time and only one has been acceptable in my honest opinion. Disney has made some very playable games in the past, so why couldn’t they give us a new era of playable Star Wars games in the future?

One last thing that also caused me to wince, too, was the lack of availability of Star Warsgames across the different platforms. The X-Wing series was only available on PC and Gamecube, the Jedi Knight series only on PC, and so on.

I do believe that there is, and always has been, a huge market that LucasArts never really tapped in to. With the huge popularity of game consoles, and PC gaming still holding its own, added to the millions of Star Wars fans around the globe, someone who can come up with that one playable, likeable, enjoyable Star Wars game would make squillions!

Personally, I would like to see the Jedi Knight series reinvented, as it’s the closest, in gaming terms, to an immersive story that propels the player into the world of being a Jedi–the struggle, the constraints, the power to rip apart armies of Stormptroopers, and a likeable character in Kyle Katarn that has been, and should stay, canonised.

Disney has all the tools, the money, and the history of successes to not only carry on the films in great vein, but to also open up the world of the gamer to a new era of games that have always promised so much, yet delivered very little.

May the Force be with Disney!

Keep it real!

;)
