StarWars.Com Review: Emptypedia

I know what you’re thinking. Ok some of you. I have no idea what anyone under the age of 25 is thinking, so full disclosure on that. But for those that remember, you might ask, “Dark Moose, didn’t you make a couple of entries for the ‘What’s the Story’ contest a few years ago?” Yes, and those are gone, found only on Wookieepedia and some other sites dedicated to keeping up the knowledge base. And if you don’t remember my awesome entries made with Nathan Butler and Billy Buehler, well, then… fine. You’re banned. Or not.

Anyway, I have not-so-mixed emotions about the new Encyclopedia versus the previous Databank. The new Encyclopedia is cleaner, well-organized, concise, and has an effective partnership with Wookieepedia. But it’s also bland, clinical even, and woefully empty. I don’t like StarWars.com throwing off the mantle of responsibility when it comes to providing official information on the Star Wars Universe. But I do at least applaud the effort to pass on the torch to fans that care.

StarWars.com has many other wonderful features to explore – this just isn’t one of them anymore. As for me, I’ll take my chances getting lost in the pages of Wookieepedia from now on. Regardless, Star Wars will always be my favorite time stealer, no matter who the thief may be.
