Then I thought about Disney. Yeah, they do actually make great films crap sequels if you’re a fan of their animated series, but they, like every other franchise these days, just want to make money and knock out films just to rake in the cash. But the Pirates of the Caribbean movies were excellent! Oh, I just want to know everything that’s going to happen to my beloved Star Wars!!!
*sighs*
It was also announced the George Lucas would be creative adviser on the new film.
Funnily enough, I had mixed emotions about this too. Once I had absorbed the fact that Disney now owns Star Wars, I began to sit back and think a little. As someone who went through the Original Trilogy the first time round, and knowing how amazing and pervasive it was in my life and in the social world from that point onwards, I remembered that I wasn’t that impressed with the Prequel Trilogy.
So the more I thought about it, the more I started to see a little bit of light through the darkness. Disney are known to be true to a brand, so I do believe that they will not mess with the formula too much. They have bundles of cash to throw at the films, and I’m quite sure they will understand that Star Wars is still the biggest film ever to hit the big screen and the potential for it to once again be the biggest film franchise is not hard to envisage if the formula is kept as it is. I do believe that Disney already know this and will keep the same formula for the films―by that I mean groundbreaking effects, and even when I think about this right now, the dialogue of the movies has always been a little irksome and some of the plotlines have been a bit iffy, so ok, George is there as creative adviser, but let’s see what happens if someone with a bit more writing ability can put together something special with a story that’s already been told.
Now, Disney did say ‘Episode 7’, so it must be a continuation from Return of the Jedi. Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Threepio, R2, Lando, Wedge, etc. have to be there, don’t they?
And then I think of the greatest baddie ever to hit the big screen; Darth Vader!
And this is where I worry. Disney will want to capitalise on all their assets, and Vader is the biggest baddie ever in movie history, so will they try to resurrect him?
