This worries me, but then I think about the EU and Tim Zahn’s ‘Thrawn’ trilogy, Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command.
For me, these books where so well written. When I read them over 10 years ago I so wanted them to be made into films. In fact, I’ve seen and heard many fans agree that these are canon in terms of what happened after ROTJ.
So does Disney stick with the EU and give the fans what they want, or are they on the brink of destroying the EU?
This is what we Star Wars fans stand to find out very soon.
Disney holds everything we have believed in and loved for the last 35 years in their hands. They could ruin the films with silly plots, and they could ruin the EU by destroying what we fans have believed to be canon for many years.
Either way, they’ll get it right or get it wrong, and if they get it wrong, they will go down as the company that took the greatest film franchise ever and flushed it down the toilet.
Disney wants to rule the world, no doubt, and now they have the power to rule the galaxy. I suspect that they know exactly what they have invested in, and I think that there are enough of us SW fans around the world to have permeated the many minds that will be working on the new film.
The next few years will be fraught with suspense and anxiety, but I have a good feeling about this!
