Topps Star Wars Card Trader App

There are other themed insert sets that are not a part of an award set. Such as Topps Choice, which high-lights a favorite character of the developers, and Fan’s Choice, which are inserts voted on by app users. These are released in regular intervals as well. These cards are released in all base and master packs.

Sometimes there are limited series of cards that are released into the base and master packs. These cards may or may not have an award component to them. In the past there was a Nightbrothers short series based on story arcs from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. This series has now ended and it is unclear if there will be a similar short series to replace it.

Then there are the Commemorative Card set. These cards are released two at a time per week in special packs. (Never in base or master packs.) However, these packs are only released 5 times in that week, and only for a half hour at a time. So their rarity is determined by how many fans find in that span of time.

There are also Encounters Inserts. These packs all have the same planetary theme, usually highlighting vehicles, creatures, soldiers, and the like from one particular world at a time. The first encounters pack brought forth inserts from the planet Hoth in various parallels (in the case of encounters and certain other inserts – described below – there are parallels as well). Collecting on of each color in a particular subset (all in the same parallel) earns an awards card. (Example: all of Hoth Encounters: Creatures had it’s own awards card.) There was also an award for having one of every Hoth card in the same parallel. It’s to be expected that this pattern will follow in all encounters sets. (The second and current set is Geonosis.) Encounters cards are released in a special pack named for the planetary theme.

Cards based on the Star Wars: Rebels are released every few days. There are two sub-themes: “Heros” and “Galactic Empire”. These cards are a part of a set but as of now no award has been announced for a complete collection and they have no parallels. They are released in special Rebels packs.

Elite Soldiers is a card pack honoring some of the favorite fighters across the galaxy. Examples from the past are Wookiee warriors, Super Battle Droids, and Clone Shocktroopers.  There is no award for collecting these cards but they are released in parallels. They can be found in the special Elite Soldiers pack on certain days.

There are “green” packs that contain green cards. Green cards can only be found in green packs. While a green card will never say “sold out” it’s not likely to be made available again once the time of this pack goes away. In some cases finding a green card will give you special access to an “orange pack” where an orange parallel of that card can be found.

Finally, there’s The Force Awakens set. Despite what many in the app may tell you these cards are not inserts. They are in their own class in the “my cards” section of the app. There are 8 designs, and whoever has one of each by April 12th will receive a special award. This card series can be found in all base and master packs, though specific cards can only be found in specific packs.

This is a breakdown of inserts that are available on a specific schedule. All series not released in a specific pack can be found in base and master packs. Only master packs require an in-app purchase. * Marks a marathon set.

– Monday – Galactic Moments series* (Great moments in Star Wars history)

– Tuesday – Bounty series* (A wanted poster of galactic criminals)

– Wednesday – Fan Choice (Voted on by users the day before)

– Thursday – Vintage* (Old school style cards)

– Friday – Connections* (Connecting one character to another)

– Saturday – Widevision* (Classic movie scenes in widescreen)

– Sunday – Topps Choice (Developers’ favorites)

When budgeting your credits keep in mind there’s usually a scheduled insert of the day and at least one special pack. It’s wise to hold out for a few hours so that you know what all your options are.

So how does a budding digital card master tell just how much a card is worth? Well, when you find out be sure to let me know. The trade world is very much a case of one man’s trash is another’s treasure. However, there are some basics to keep in mind.

Whites are the least valuable, blues slightly more, than reds, and then yellows. Most early trading will consist of cards of these colors (or colours). You can see how many of a particular card are in circulation by tapping on the card itself and then tapping again to flip the card over. The number on the back is the circulation number. Whites, blues, reds and yellows are not going to sell out so everyday they’re going to have more cards in circulation. Yellows are a little bit more tricky in determining value because they’re released a few at a time. As a result, some yellows are far more rare than others. This means that they may sell for more or less depending on how long they’ve been around. But remember! Yellows only count towards an award card for 24 hours after their release. Anytime you’re trading for a yellow more than a day old use your discretion about whether or not you want to “overpay”. A week later you might be able to make a much “cheaper” trade.
